Thomas Wronker
Thomas Wronker discovered his fascination for photography in 1970 while working in the B/W laboratory of the Max-Planck Institute für Biophysical Chemistry in Göttingen. Despite the fact that he had never before touched a camera, the chemical processes used for the reproduction of scientific curves and diagrams held him in pure awe - and constituted his fascination for “the visualisation of the invisible”. Several years elapsed until Thomas Wronker resolved to take pictures himself and with great curiosity he started looking at the world through the lense of a camera. Over the years, an oeuvre has been created whose spectrum never ceases to surprise.
Next to back-pedalling single motifs, it is especially his series that are most striking and that fell into place throughout the years. Common to all his pictures is both an aesthetic as well as exploratory approach to the world and its materiality.
The photographs capture the exact moment that fascinated the photographer, never a reconstruction thereof. Thomas Wronker deliberately avoids the use of artificial light and perfectly choreographed stagings in favour of an authentic image.

Thomas Wronker
Thomas Wronker entdeckte seine Faszination für die Fotografie 1970 im S/W-Labor des Max-Planck-Instituts für biophysikalische Chemie in Göttingen. Obwohl er bis zu diesem Zeitpunkt nie eine Kamera berührt hatte, zogen ihn die chemischen Entwicklungs-Prozesse zur Reproduktion wissenschaftlicher Kurven und Diagramme in ihren Bann – und begründeten seine Faszination für die „Sichtbarmachung des Unsichtbaren“. Einige Jahre später entschloss sich Thomas Wronker, selbst zu fotografieren, und begann mit großer Neugier durch die Kamera in die Welt zu blicken. So ist über die Jahre ein Werk entstanden, dessen Bandbreite immer wieder überrascht.
Neben Einzelmotiven, die innehalten lassen, fallen vor allem die Serien ins Auge, die sich teilweise über viele Jahre hinweg zusammenfügen. Allen Bildern gemeinsam ist sowohl eine ästhetische als auch eine forschende Annäherung an die Welt und ihre Materialität.
Die Aufnahmen zeigen unmittelbar den Moment, der den Fotografen fasziniert hat, niemals eine Rekonstruktion dieses Moments. Thomas Wronker verzichtet bewusst auf die Verwendung von künstlichem Licht und auf eine perfekt choreografierte Inszenierung zugunsten eines authentischen Bildes.
